IAM Patent 1000 Highlights Lenczner Slaght’s Depth of IP Expertise and Trial Excellence
Lenczner Slaght continues to be recognized for its patent litigation expertise in the 2026 edition of IAM Patent 1000: The World's Leading Patent Professionals.
After a comprehensive qualitative research process that included peer and client feedback, the directory identifies world-class firms and individuals who are deemed outstanding in patent litigation based on their depth of expertise, market presence, and quality of work.
In addition to the firm’s ranking, five of our expert litigators are individually recognized for their in-depth knowledge and extensive trial experience in patent matters.
Clients and peers had only positive feedback regarding our expert team:
Lenczner Slaght is one of Canada’s pre-eminent litigation firms, defined by trial excellence and a hard-edged approach to complex disputes, including some of the most consequential patent cases to reach the courts. The firm has deep experience litigating under the PM(NOC) Regulations for leading pharmaceutical companies, alongside a growing body of work for technology and energy clients and is routinely instructed on cross-border matters where IP rights must be enforced coherently across jurisdictions.
The IP practice is co-led by Sana Halwani and Jordana Sanft, both nationally recognised advocates with reputations built in the courtroom. Halwani is a dynamo litigator whose practice centres on large-scale, high-profile and international IP disputes, appearing before all levels of the Ontario and Federal courts. She led the firm’s representation of Adeia in a string of patent infringement actions against Videotron, Bell Canada and Telus, matters that became Canada’s first fully virtual patent trials and set a procedural blueprint now followed by courts and litigants nationwide. Sanft brings more than two decades of experience across all areas of IP law, with particular authority in pharmaceutical and life sciences litigation, and is widely known for pairing creative strategy with rigorous legal execution to protect and enforce high-value portfolios. The senior trial bench is further reinforced by Andrew Moeser, whose practice focuses on IP litigation in pharmaceuticals, biologics, information technology and oil and gas, and whose experience includes some of the country’s most complex and high-profile IP matters. Martin Brandsma adds depth in technically intensive disputes, advising clients with concise, practical guidance; he played a central role in Adeia’s ongoing enforcement campaign against BCE Inc., working with experts on infringement and validity opinions and shaping litigation strategy through discovery and pleadings. Supporting the firm’s pharmaceutical litigation strength, Cynthia Tape brings 25 years of industry experience to the pre-litigation and trial-preparation stages of major drug cases, integrating regulatory, scientific and patent analysis and leading expert preparation and cross-examination strategy in matters where precision is decisive.
Congratulations to the team!
