Tom Curry to Receive Nipissing University’s Highest Honour
Nipissing University will recognize Tom Curry with an honorary degree, Doctor of Letters, at its upcoming virtual convocation celebrations. Tom is being honoured for his meaningful contributions to Nipissing University, the legal profession, and society-at-large.
Tom was born and raised in North Bay and is a long-time supporter of the university. He served for two terms on its Board of Governors and played an important role as a Member of the Special Governance Commission, formed to assess and improve the governance structures and culture of collegiality. The work of the Special Governance Commission led to significant improvements in the quality of the relationships and engagement between the Board, Academic Senate, administration, students, and the wider community at Nipissing.
Widely recognized as one of the leading trial and appellate lawyers in the country, Tom has also been recognized with various professional honours, including the prestigious Law Society Medal, The Catzman Award, and The Advocates’ Society Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is a passionate teacher and mentor to junior lawyers and demonstrates great leadership as the Managing Partner of Lenczner Slaght and within the profession at large.
Tom continues to support and inspire the next generation of lawyers and students at Nipissing University, The University of Waterloo, and Osgoode Hall Law School through the creation of bursaries and awards intended to help students in financial need.
