Best Wishes, Shara Roy!

After 17 years in practice and 10 years as an expert litigator at Canada’s leading litigation firm, Shara Roy will be joining Ernst & Young LLP (EY Canada) as their new Chief Legal Counsel and member of their Executive Committee.

“This is a remarkable opportunity for Shara to continue her leadership in the law. We are very proud of her!” says Managing Partner, Tom Curry. “She has been chosen to lead the legal function and be part of the executive team of the national office of one of the world's foremost professional services firms. We are proud of our long relationship with EY Canada and know they are in good hands with Shara.”

Since joining the firm in 2011, Shara has been an exceptional lawyer, valued colleague and mentor, and strong equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) advocate.

Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers, Shara is a tough-minded commercial litigator with deep expertise in complex commercial litigation, securities, and insolvency and restructuring. In her time at Lenczner Slaght, Shara appeared before all levels of Court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the Ontario Securities Commission. Shara also co-founded and led the ED&I Subcommittee at the Commercial List User’s Committee.

Within the firm, Shara embraced and advanced our culture of innovation and EDI. While she was Co-Chair of our Student Committee, she helped develop our ground-breaking resume anonymization program, our award-winning R&R Lounge, and our Access to Advocacy Internships. Along with Sana Halwani, she also co-created ReferToHer™, and together they have spent considerable time making it an important resource to ensure female lawyers are just as top of mind for referrals as their male colleagues.

Shara Roy adds: “My experience at Lenczner Slaght has been second to none. I am grateful for my partners and colleagues’ encouragement and support throughout my time at the firm. I am excited to take on this new challenge and opportunity at EY Canada.”

Shara has made a tremendous positive impact on our firm and will become an important member of our alumni network.

We wish Shara all the best!
