Lenczner Slaght Recognized as a 5-Star Pro Bono Firm

In partnership with Pro Bono Ontario, Canadian Lawyer has published its inaugural special report on Canada’s 5-Star Pro Bono Firms, which recognizes law firms that provide invaluable access to justice nationwide through their pro bono work. We are proud to be recognized.

Lenczner Slaght has a strong commitment to pro bono work and community service. Our lawyers and students are actively engaged in pro bono matters, including through the firm’s formal pro bono initiatives and partnerships. Recent examples include:

• Participating in the Pro Bono Referral Project administered by the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR), providing pro bono representation for CCHR’s clients experiencing housing precarity or dealing with human rights issues related to accommodation.
• Volunteering at Pro Bono Ontario’s Law Help Centres, which help low income and unrepresented litigants with civil, non-family matters in Toronto and Ottawa, and as duty counsel through programs like the Divisional Court Duty Counsel Program.
• Working with Legal Aid Ontario’s Clinic Resource Office to develop and deliver hands-on, skills-based training programs for their lawyers and paralegals, on tailored advocacy topics relevant to their important work in communities across Ontario.

Canadian Lawyer's 5-Star Pro Bono Firms recognizes Canada’s law firms that demonstrate pro bono infrastructure at an institutional level, through initiatives such as the formal adoption of pro bono policies, the striking of committees to provide leadership and oversight, the recognition of pro bono hours, charitable giving to access to justice organizations, the active engagement with partners in the community to find meaningful pro bono opportunities, and a minimum of five hours per lawyer pro bono time.
