Kristina* is a summer student at Lenczner Slaght. She is completing her JD at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. Kristina holds her Chartered Accountant designation and has extensive experience in client service, working with both local and multinational corporations. She understands§ the variety of challenges both companies and people face and knows how to navigate complex data to solve problems and drive business success. Kristina has also served as a volunteer director, where she applies her expertise in governance and financial performance to champion stakeholder interests in corporate settings. It was through these roles that inspired Kristina to make the career shift to law. In all her roles, Kristina is dedicated to client success right down to the bottom line , and as a law student, she is combining her professional and financial experience with her passion for advocacy with an aim to build a broad commercial litigation practice. .

Details

Kristina Schmuttermeier (she/her)

is a summer student at Lenczner Slaght.

Kristina is a JD Candidate at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. As a law student, Kristina has focused on building her advocacy skills through advocacy courses and the mooting program, including as a participant in the Donald Bowman Tax Moot and in the Nelligan Law Moot, where she placed as a semi-finalist. Kristina works as a research assistant on a variety of issues, including equity in tax law, gender-related policies and inclusive access rights. Kristina has also served as an Associate Editor of the Ottawa Law Review and, in her third year, is looking forward to serving as a Senior Editor, along with holding the role of the Journal’s Treasurer.

Kristina is also passionate about finance. Prior to law school, Kristina earned her Chartered Accountant designation in 2016. Kristina previously practiced auditing, accounting, and tax at a Big 4 firm and a global public accounting firm in the GTA.
