Alec* is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght and a member of the inaugural class at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law. As a former competitive athlete, Alec understands the importance of preparation in achieving success. In law school, Alec harnessed the same level of discipline required in sport to advocate for his clients’ positions in various competitive settings, such as the Canadian National Negotiation Competition and the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Whether he is defending an attack on the volleyball court or presenting oral arguments in a moot competition, Alec hits§ the ground running with hustle and determination. Prior to law school, Alec worked for the Department of Canadian Heritage as a Capital Information Officer and Tour Guide. In this role, he drew on his interpersonal skills and creativity to deliver personalized historical interpretation of heritage landmarks and commemorative sites in the National Capital Region. Alec tackles complex questions with precision and never misses the mark under pressure to secure the win. .

Details

Alec Verch (he/him)

is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght.

Alec completed his JD at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law where he co-founded Lincoln OUTLaws and the Lincoln Alexander Labour and Employment Law Society.

During his first year, Alec competed in the Canadian National Negotiation Competition and was awarded Best Process Management and Analysis Skills. Alec was also an oralist in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

In addition to mooting, Alec led a student research initiative on young workers’ rights which culminated with a report that was submitted to Ontario’s Workforce Recovery Advisory Committee. In his final year, Alec completed his professional placement at the Ontario Court of Justice where he researched complex points of law, edited judgments, and gained insight into judicial decision-making.

Prior to law school, Alec interned with Scholars at Risk, an international network of higher education institutions dedicated to the promotion of academic freedom, and was selected to attend the 71st session of the UN General Assembly as a Canadian Youth Delegate. Aside from his passion for advocacy, Alec is a musical theatre enthusiast and an active member of Toronto’s queer sports leagues.
