Herschel* is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght. As a student at Western Law, Herschel worked as a research assistant in the conflict of laws and as a competitor in several moots, notably where he placed first in the Legate Medical Malpractice Moot. Drawing from his graduate studies in philosophy, Herschel puts theory§ front of mind when he approaches legal problems. He asks not just what the law is, but why and how, so that he can craft creative legal arguments to his clients’ advantage. He thinks, writes, and argues with discipline, bringing philosophy into practice where it is sure to make an impact. Beyond law, Herschel loves to spend time with friends, hike, and play guitar and chess. .

Herschel W. Chaiet (he/him)

is an articling student at Lenczner Slaght.

Herschel is a recent graduate from Western University’s Faculty of Law. As a law student, he developed strengths in legal research and written and oral advocacy. Herschel worked as a research assistant in the conflict of laws, as an editor for the Western Journal of Legal Studies and wrote a major research paper on the recognition of foreign judgments for which he was awarded the Baker & McKenzie Award in International Business Transactions. He has successfully competed in several trial and appellate advocacy competitions, including the Legate Medical Malpractice Moot, the Cherniak Cup, the Lerners LLP Cup, and the Gale Cup Moot.

Prior to studying law, Herschel studied philosophy at McMaster University. He wrote his master’s thesis on constitutional interpretation and presented his philosophical papers at three international philosophy conferences. Herschel proudly balanced his studies with part-time work as a teaching assistant, a research assistant, and a reservist in the Royal Canadian Navy.
